Is common practice cleaning enough for protecting your child from airborne contaminants?
When you want to prepare your child’s playroom, you may aim to child proof it from anything that might harm them, or reach for the vacuum cleaner every time you spy a trace of dust on the furniture making sure it’s clean at all times. Little do we know that the use of a normal vacuum cleaner stirs up clouds of dust that hang about in the air for up to 8 hours and cause sneezing, runny nose, and itchiness.
Dust mites are the main source of allergens in any home and it may be hard for many parents to accept that these invisible microorganisms are present in large numbers even in a thoroughly cleaned home, and will actually put children in harm’s way. All these dust mites need is a moderately warm, moist atmosphere such as the bedding which offers warmth, moisture, plenty of skin, and fibrous materials to dust mites. They also thrive in upholstered furniture, clothing, soft toys, and carpets.
Trying to find a balance between allowing children to feel free in their own play area at home and making sure that this play area itself is actually safe for them is a hard thing to manage. Parents often want their children’s comfort, but in the safest way possible, and we ,at The Healthy Home®, are proud to provide families with this peace of mind in terms of their children’s healthy safety.
